About us

Build on a legacy of skills development in the community, iSMART Academy is not “just” an afterschool program, but a program that has the vision to train and equip high school students and young adult in a holistic way, so they can best be set up for success in their lives.

We believe each person is created in the image of God, with soul, body and mind.
Yes, we teach practical and vocational skills in order to help our young people to get jobs, but in our classes we also make sure to model and talk about all the soft skills that are so important in life.

Our Name

"SMART"

• Firstly, SMART stands for for “being smart” as an encouragement and a statement especially for the rural young people that we are serving (who are often considered not so smart).

• Secondly, each letter stands for something more and it also clarifies that we are not trying to produce a proud elite, but there is much more to education than just being academically smart or highly skilled.

"i"

The “I” stands for to be able to indicate “I am smart” and “I am …” all the things the letters in the word SMART stand for.

Our belief, that everyone has the ability to create.
We are committed to use new and creative ways to teach.
After being trained by us, participants will be able to create (with their hands or brains).
Our desire to empower people to operate in new and creative ways in their respective fields.

Our belief that we are all made to serve and not live for ourselves alone.
We want to see people willing and able to use their skills to serve God, other people and their community.

Learn

The willingness of the student to learn and our commitment to teach well, so the student can learn well

Each letter stands for one of our values, which are the foundation on which our training is being built.

Skilled

We are committed to teach skills, that will have value for life and earning a livelyhood.We are committed to have teachers and trainers who are experts in their subject.
We are not teaching abstract information, but every student will be practically and “hands-on” acquiring those skills

Motivated

We believe that a positive attitude is crucial and a key factor for learning as well as working.
Our teachers are motivated to teach.
We expect our students to be willing and motivated to learn – when it is easy and when it's hard.

We can’t avoid mistakes. But every one of us can always give their best.
How that looks like for each induvidual can be and is very different, since we are all unique and different (by nature, nurture and circumstance), but we encourage everyone to always give their best.
We want to train and challenge each student according to their abilities and talents.

Our teaching and training style is marked by respect. Respect for each student and teacher as a unique person with infinite value.
We teach and expect respect from the student for God and every human life.
For the teachers / trainers / supervisors with their responsiblities and for all property and material as to be stewarded responsibly.

Living and communicating honestly and truthfully with each other is our foundation. This brings forth trust and accelerates learning.
We all make mistakes.
We expect admitting faults and extending forgiveness to each other.
